Chemical Industries Association Annual Dinner
Thursday 19th November 2009
Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London

The CIA Annual Dinner is an occasion for celebration, networking and for great entertainment. It is one of the largest annual events of its kind and is the chemical industry’s premier business and social assembly of opinion formers. There will be some 1500 diners including senior representatives of chemical companies and leading figures from the City, industry and commerce, government, academia, stakeholders and the news media. The dinner provides an excellent opportunity to entertain valued existing clients, network with prospective customers and generate new business contacts.

The guest of honour and keynote speaker is The Rt Hon Lord Mandelson. Peter Mandelson is the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills following the creation of the new government department in 2009, when he was also appointed First Secretary of State and Lord President of the Council. Peter was elected as MP for Hartlepool in 1992 and he has held a number of government positions including Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Apart from his Ministerial career, he has also served as the United Kingdom's European Commissioner where he held the key Trade portfolio.
The after dinner speaker is Gyles Brandreth. A former MP for the City of Chester, Gyles’ career has ranged from being a Whip and Lord Commissioner of the Treasury in John Major’s government to an actor, entertainer and broadcaster. He is also a biographer and author and his best-selling diary “Breaking the Code” was described as “the best political diary in recent years’” by The Times newspaper.
