The CIA - a Catalyst for Progress
Who are we?
The CIA is the UK’s leading trade association for the chemical and chemistry-using
industries, representing members both nationally and internationally. We
work primarily for the benefit of our members. We embrace a strong philosophy
of advocacy, authority and action and focus our priorities on addressing the issues
that relate directly to our members, their businesses and the chemical industry. This
enables us to be single-minded in supporting our members’ interests - and
deliver a significant competitive advantage. The business climate we all
operate in continues to pose increasing challenges. A key part of our remit is
to articulate members’ collective hopes and concerns; improve appreciation
of the situation amongst UK and European governments, the media and other key
stakeholders; and help address the global competitive issues encountered by our
members. Our externally facing agenda provides for a proactive, flexible
way of working that enables us to identify emerging issues, analyse their potential
impacts and respond effectively to the most important ones. The added value of
this issues-driven approach is that we can help members target precious resources
on the individual issues of greatest importance to them. We operate through
high level, policy-forming boards and issue-focused groups that define our offering
and contribute significantly towards our - and our members’ - overall effectiveness. We
do not ask members to serve on standing committees but to engage on the issues
that matter to them. We also have the flexibility to form small task groups on
issues of interest to a sub-set of members as well as broad issues, which affect
the whole membership. Embrace change: how membership
of the CIA gives you an advantage now – and in the future In a constantly
changing business landscape, it seems that everyone is running to stand still
in order to meet his or her regulatory obligations and remain competitive. We
believe that effective legislation delivers a better operating environment for
everyone, but we also think that it's vital for members to get involved, feel
a part of this process and understand the relevance of the work being done on
their behalf. Whatever your involvement in the chemical industry - manufacturer,
importer, processor, supplier, consultant or other service provider - CIA offers
something that benefits you. Our unique level of experience across all sectors
of the industry makes us the strongest trade association for the chemical and
chemistry-using industries in the UK. The very nature of the CIA’s
position, the breadth and strength of our membership and the knowledge and skills
of our people, enable us to act as a unique partner in helping you address the
issues that directly influence your businesses. By
