DIRECTOR GENERAL'S AGM "STATE OF THE nation" report 2003

The world is changing and the UK chemical industry must change with it, recognising society's changing concerns and responding to them, according to CIA Director General, Judith Hackitt, speaking the Annual General Meeting of the Chemical Industries Association on 20 November at the CIA offices, Kings Building, Smith Square, London.

By closely tracking society's shifting agendas, the industry can gain valuable insights into what its future agenda might be, enabling us to get on the front foot and at least be ready for the issues when they arrive, rather than playing defensively after being taken by surprise, she said.

"Meeting Needs and Expectations provides a very succinct description of our industry's very core purpose - meeting society's needs - in the past, now and in the future, whilst, at the same time, doing so in a way that also meets society's expectations - which also evolve over time."
