Chemical companies in the UK were awarded for their outstanding
achievements at the Chemical Industries Association's annual
gala Awards Dinner on the 7 July 2005. BBC News Presenter,
Peter Sissons, hosted the prize giving at Manchester's Palace
Hotel.
Designed to highlight outstanding achievement in the chemical
industry, the awards are one of the highest distinctions companies
and individuals can achieve. They demonstrate the industry's
continuing improvements in Health, Safety and Environment
(HSE), innovation, manufacturing, reputation, sustainable
development and dedication to investing in people.

In the generous words of Lord Sainsbury, Minister for Science
and Innovation, the CIA awards "properly recognise outstanding
achievement in many of the key issues facing the industry"
and "The prestige of being nominated in any of the categories
brings deserved recognition to companies and individuals alike".
A year on from the launch of CIA's Guiding
principles and Goals for a sustainable chemical industry,
CIA President Alistair Steel highlighted how important sustainable
development still is: "We need to show that, although
just a small part of the global chemicals business, the UK
chemical industry is not only vital for our future, but for
our children's future, and theirs beyond that. We need to
demonstrate that we are acting in a way that will make it
possible for the chemical industry to continue to benefit
society for years to come and to earn society's respect for
doing so."
