| The purpose
of the award is to identify outstanding young people
and harness their ambassadorial, communication and leadership
skills on behalf of the UK industry as a whole. |

The UK chemical industry attracts some of the most
able and highly trained young people. The award encourages
them to develop their communication skills whilst
demonstrating awareness of the industrys social
and environmental context.
Formerly known as the Young Person of the Year Award, this popular award is now in its 24th successive year.
The national winner is chosen from members of the
CIA, SCI, BCECA, RSC and Young
Persons' Network from among winners representing
different regions of the UK.

Leanne Hart is the Young Ambassador 2005. She won the Northeast
regional heat of the competition before going on to win the
final.

Leanne is a 24-year-old process engineer from Hartlepool,
and works for AMEC, an international project management and
services company based in Darlington. She has a degree in
chemical engineering, enjoys dance classes and works actively
with her local Girl Guide group.
She says: "There are massive opportunities available
in the chemical industry which are far too often overlooked.
I will be proud to represent an industry that can offer so
much to so many.
