Opportunity to join DCMS College of Experts

The Department for Digital Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) is recruiting 20 individuals for their College of Experts to provide independent, impartial, strategic and technical advice on departmental research, policy and programmes for a period of up to 3 years (approx. 3 - 5 days commitment per year).

It is vital that the Department’s work is informed by the most up to date research and expertise across the breadth of our sectors. Establishing a College of Experts will allow DCMS policy teams to engage with leading researchers across a range of disciplines and domains and to draw upon expertise to ensure that the work of the Department is effective. They are recruiting across their policy portfolio priority areas: Digital Technology and Infrastructure; Internet Safety and Security; Art, Culture and the Creative Industries.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to directly inform and influence DCMS's policy making by providing their expertise, research and networks at various stages of the policymaking process and ensure their research has a real-world impact and helps shape Government policy.

Opportunity to join DfT Science Advisory Council

Are you interested in using your science and engineering expertise and skills to directly influence government decision-making as it delivers an exciting transport agenda, building a better and cleaner transport system?

The Department for Transport (DfT) are inviting applications for up to five new members of their Science Advisory Council (SAC) – a committee of academic and industry experts who provide independent, strategic advice and challenge to the Department on science and technology issues.

DfT are looking for candidates with expertise in one of several specific technical areas relevant to transport, together with the broader skills to contribute effectively across all SAC activities.

The role involves a time commitment of approximately 10 and 8 days per year respectively, with remuneration offered.

DIGIT Lab Digital Economy Next Stage Centre Launch

You are invited to the launch event for the DIGIT Lab, an EPSRC Digital Economy Next Stage Centre at the University of Exeter. The launch will be an opportunity for the Centre's Director, academic leads and industry guests to outline DIGIT Lab's achievements to date, its ongoing research, the four core DIGIT Lab themes and the centre’s research questions.

DIGIT Lab is a five year programme providing research insights, knowledge frameworks and practical techniques to accelerate digital transformation in the UK. The Centre works with large established organizations (LEOs) to reimagine them for the digital age - in ways that go beyond the digitalization of current products and practices. The Centre combines active research, education and industrial co-development to tackle key issues.

AHRC is funding £100,000 through the Fund for International Collaboration (FIC) for project to analyse creative industries research and innovation collaboration between the UK and China.

AHRC's funding opportunity to explore impact of artificial intelligence ethics on workplaces

AHRC is funding up to £200,000 for research projects on how ethical artificial intelligence frameworks affect workplace culture. 

The funded projects will develop new and inclusive partnerships or networks to test assumptions and identify future research questions in this field.

ESRC's call: Research to improve UK economic productivity

ESRC is funding £10 million for this call which is part of its strategic priority of significantly extending the understanding of productivity in the UK and finding ways to improve it. Proposals are welcome across the productivity landscape that do not overlap with existing research projects. Please note that diversity and productivity, net zero and the green economy, and financial markets have been identified as particularly under-researched themes that applicants may wish to focus on.

£24m funding for industrial studentships

This year more than 200 doctoral students will be supported to work on pressing research challenges with UK businesses through a £24 million investment.

This includes £18 million from EPSRC to support Industrial Co-operative Awards in Science and Technology (ICASE) studentships and £6.7 million co-investment from 35 industrial partners.
