Welcome to the June edition of the UK Circular Plastics Network Newsletter. This month we're featuring the recordings of our webinar series on the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging competition, the Plastics Research Innovation Fund Roadmap and the Designing Sustainable Plastic Solutions competition. You can view our latest funding round-up and a list of events relevant to the plastics community below. 


Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge Webinar Workshops - Recordings Available

      

The UK Circular Plastics Network & KTN held a series of workshop webinars in order to generate support and collaboration for the upcoming ISCF Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge funding competitions which will launch in Summer 2020.


The recordings from each of these sessions are now available to watch back, including sessions on how Covid-19 is affecting your ability to innovate towards zero plastic waste, compostable packaging, behavioural changes required to minimise packaging waste, and solutions for films and flexibles in packaging applications. Designing Sustainable Plastic Solutions Competition

Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £800,000 to fund early-stage, human-centred design projects to reduce the harm that plastics have on our environment and to therefore increase productivity and growth of the UK economy. This funding is from the Plastic Research and Innovation Fund. You can watch back the recording of our online briefing event.

Plastics Research Innovation Fund (PRIF) Roadmap

We have published a Plastics Roadmap on the Future Opportunities and Needs in the UK Plastics Supply Chain.This document presents the findings from a roadmapping exercise delivered under the auspices of the Plastics Research and Innovation Fund. These are recommendations for where future R&D funding could be directed to increase the circularity of the UK plastics supply chain. They are supported by full a technical report.

KTN has created a new page on the Commonwealth Marine Plastics Research and Innovation Framework: a new Commonwealth hub to bring together expertise on sustainable alternatives to plastic and stopping plastic entering oceans.

WRAP Announces UK Circular Plastics Flagship Projects Winners

Four schemes have won grants totalling nearly £1m as part of a UK Research and Innovation competition to find innovative solutions to plastic waste. The UK Circular Plastics Flagship Projects competition is part of the £20m Plastic Research and Innovation Fund. As part of the same grant scheme, WRAP will soon announce a new fund.

In order to assist the community in collaborating virtually the UK Circular Plastics Network has set up a video enabled meeting and collaboration platform for members of UKCPN to use at no cost.
