The National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC)

Dear Alex,

Welcome to your latest poison centre update. NCEC have a team of poison centre consultants working with more than 100 customers to ensure they are compliant with member state legislations and have completed over 50,000 notifications to date.

We are partnering with Ecomole for a free webinar on 'Poison Centres – Notification to ECHA'

In April, ECHA released its new poison centre harmonised portal. The webinar will take a look at this new portal along with an overview of countries that will accept the harmonised notifications instead of national notifications. The webinar will also discuss poison centre notification obligations, UFI codes and communicating UFIs in the supply chain.

With the new harmonized system being released last month we wanted to look into the harmonised submission portal.

Harmonised tool – who will be using it?

Countries currently fall into three different groups – those who will be accepting notifications through the submission portal only, those who will continue to accept notifications in the member state format as well as the harmonised format and those who have not declared how they will be accepting notifications.

Countries accepting notifications in national format as well as through the submission portal are – Austria, Germany and Portugal.

Countries which have not confirmed how they will accept notifications are – Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Romania and UK. From these countries we expect some will continue to accept their own member state submissions.

Languages for notification?

The notification portal will require users to create dossiers in many local languages. There are some languages which will be accepted by multiple countries, however, for the most part, currently the notifications must be completed in the language of each member state.

Which countries can accept notifications through the harmonized portal now?

No countries are currently accepting notifications through the portal, however you can draft dossiers.

Through the provision of expert advice and technical resources, NCEC is able to assist organisations in complying and avoiding the financial and legal costs of non-compliance. For more information on questions regarding the new poison centre tools or any other poison centre query, please don't hesitate to contact our team at poisoncentres@ricardo.com or visit our website.
