“Publicity is absolutely critical. A good PR story is infinitely more effective than a front page ad.” Richard Branson

If you want to boost sales, increase your influence and improve your reputation, the media and social media are very powerful tools.

But front page coverage does not just happen. Before you even consider contacting journalists to see if they’re interested in your expertise and your stories, you need to have laid the groundwork and established a realistic media and social media strategy.

This two part course will demystify the media and social media enabling you to make the most of the opportunities presented by both and raise your profile.

In the morning, you will learn how the media operates, the types of stories it covers and how to pitch your ideas. You will be taken through how to develop a media strategy step by step and discover how to target the journalists and publications that matter for you.

In the afternoon, you will discover the best social media platforms for your sector, create a basic social media strategy, learn how to establish or refresh your company’s social media presence on these platforms, and how to deal with the negative – both handling criticism and using social media in a crisis.

This course is highly practical and you will leave with the building blocks in place to create both your media and social media strategy, and ready to raise your profile and improve your reputation within your sector.

The CIA Member rate is £250.00 plus VAT
The Non Member rate is £300.00 plus VAT

This course is aimed at non-media professionals who have a role to play in generating press releases and positive news stories for the local or trade media. It will be of use to both those with an interest of getting coverage of general good news stories about the company or employees or those who need to get more complex scientific achievements or concepts across in terms the general public can understand.

The afternoon session focuses on social media and is aimed at those who want to develop a strategy for using social media as well as those interested in getting more use out of this tool or want to know how to react in case of adverse social media comments.
