Before you even consider contacting journalists to see if they’re interested your expertise and your stories, you need to have laid the groundwork and established a realistic media and social media strategy.This two part course will demystify the media and social media enabling you to make the most of the opportunities presented by both and raise your profile.In the morning, you will learn how the media operates, the types of stories it covers and how to pitch your ideas. You will be taken through how to develop a media strategy step by step and discover how to target the journalists and publications that matter for you. This course is aimed at non-media professionals who have a role to play in generating press releases and positive news stories for the local or trade media. It will be of use to both those with an interest of getting coverage of general good news stories about the company or employees or those who need to get more complex scientific achievements or concepts across in terms the general public can understand. The afternoon session focuses on social media and is aimed at those who want to develop a strategy for using social media as well as those interested in getting more use out of this tool or want to know how to react in case of adverse social media comments.
