CNW News

I would like to make you aware of three funding opportunities (highlighted below) that are available as part of the Innovate UK Transforming Foundation Industries Challenge.

The Transforming Foundation Industries (TFI) Challenge focuses on accelerating innovation within the Foundation industries (FI’s) to increase sustainability in the areas of resource and energy efficiency while also improving productivity.

For this challenge the FI’s are chemicals, cement, ceramics, glass, metals and paper and an overview of TFI is available here. We recognise that the scope of TFI can be challenging and our KTN article on “what TFI means for the chemicals sector” aims to provide a clearer overview of the priority areas and themes.

Funding Opportunities

TFI’s Investor Partnership programme offers smaller UK registered companies access to Innovate R&D project funding alongside investor equity investment. The Transforming Foundation Industries – Investor Partnership webpage provides more information and access to a pre-recorded webinar and the applicant information pack.  If you are interested then a one-page short pitch (free form text) should be submitted to KTN, focusing on the investment opportunity you are offering and the R&D project that you wish to undertake.

You might find this webinar, on writing an investment pitch, useful.

The Innovate UK TFI small-scale R&D competition opened on the 16th August with the deadline for applications being the 29th September. The competition has two strands, Strand 1 is for UK SME lead projects with an eligible cost of between £25,000 and £75,000, while Strand 2 is for projects which can be led by any size UK business, involve one SME and have eligible costs of between £75,000 and £250,000. The recording of the competition briefing is available here.

The Innovate UK TFI Large Scale demonstration competition is due to open on the 11th October. Ahead of the competition opening there are three conferences planned.

  • Resource Efficiency (waste utilisation, symbiosis, design for Circular Economy) hosted by TFI Hub TransFIRe on 6th October - 0930-1230hrs
  • Sensors, Controls and Digitalisation (for resource / energy efficiency) hosted by Network+. Week beginning 18th October (TBC) - 0930-1230hrs
  • Energy Efficiency (process efficiency, heat recovery) hosted by KTN, 25th October - 0930-1230hrs - hosted by KTN

If you would be interested in presenting your challenge or solution at any of the above conferences then please submit an abstract of no more than 250 words to KTN by the 3rd September. KTN will notify you if your abstract has been successful the week after.

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss TFI further or to let us know if you are interested in submitting a competition application or a conference abstract. It would be great to hear from you and to find out how KTN can help.
