The Centre for Doctoral Training in Materials for demanding Environments at the University of Manchester has a number of subsidised PhD studentships available to start October 2018 and is seeking industry partners to develop suitable research topics in collaboration with the University’s academics.

The Centre’s PhD students carry out research into structural integrity and materials performance issues, covering metallic, polymeric, ceramic and composite materials or applications, principally where the operating environment for the material is challenging in some way.

Typically for large companies up to 50% of the cost of the PhD is covered by the CDT with the remainder from the sponsoring company. A limited number of opportunities for SMEs are available at reduced rates.

There is no formal deadline but businesses are advised to act as quickly as possible as there are a limited number of opportunities and students must be recruited in time to start in October 2018.
