The Chemical Industries Association (CIA) has partnered with ITN Productions Industry News to produce a news-style programme The Chemical Industry: Our Route to Net Zero exploring how the chemical industry is at the forefront of the new revolution to make products sustainable, vital in helping the UK achieve its net zero target by 2050.

The chemical industry is committed to delivering more sustainable solutions for a cleaner, greener society.  Not only are chemicals essential components to energy-saving products but cutting emissions and transforming chemical production could have a huge impact globally. Anchored by an ITN Productions presenter, The Chemical Industry – Our Route to Net Zero explores what the chemical solutions of the future look like and highlights examples of best practice, innovative solutions and technologies meeting green regulations and significantly contributing to societal advancements based on world-class chemistry.

In an interview, Steve Elliot, Chief Executive of the Chemical Industries Associations discusses how the sector is working together to reach the 2050 target, addresses what still needs to be done, explains how CIA are supporting its members and highlights the myriad of exciting career opportunities for the next generation.

Reporter Donna Bernard talks to Peter Jones, Managing Director of Bitrez, a company globally recognised for its expertise, to learn more about how Bitrez is helping clients drive towards net zero targets through its innovative materials providing businesses with clean alternatives to petrochemicals.

Andrew Gardner, CEO of INEOS FPS and Chairman of Olefins and Polymers UK talks about the work INEOS O&P UK at Grangemouth has undertaken to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 37%, and Scotland’s carbon capture and storage project using depleted oil fields with reporter Sharon Thomas.

Providing alternatives to fossil fuels is essential for a sustainable future and key to this future is the production and storage of hydrogen. Reporter Julie MacDonald visits Inovyn, part of the Ineos group, who are involved in many projects to accelerate the use of hydrogen across Europe. Nigel Bouckley, UK Country and Operations Manager, Inovyn, shares ambitions to help steer the UK towards a hydrogen fuelled economy.

Jonathan Gibson interviews employees from Koura to learn more about their cleaner, greener versions of fluroproducts that are used in millions of everyday applications around the world. Sarah Hughes, Global Commercial Director explains the importance of a sustainable supply chain and strong recycling programmes and Ricardo Monsivais, Global Sustainability Senior Manager highlights Koura’s sustainability framework and the role of evolving technology and research in securing a sustainable future for business.

As climate change continues to become ever more real, reporter Suzanne Virdee interviews employers from Robinson Brothers Ltd to learn more about how the company is challenging the perceptions around chemical companies and the environment, with its environmental and sustainability efforts in reducing emissions and waste.

Nina Harrison-Bell, Head of ITN Productions Industry News said: “We are excited to be working with CIA to make a programme that raises awareness of the importance of the chemical industry to individuals, society and the UK’s climate leadership. We hope the programme encourages debate and knowledge sharing amongst leaders within the profession and encourages individuals to consider a career in a sector with such significant global impact.”

The programme will be shared by CIA digitally ahead of COP26 with a secondary screening scheduled for 18 November 2021 at the CIA Annual Dinner and will combine key sector interviews, informative news items and sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.
