Johnson Matthey has developed a series of new testing and application facilities in the UK to continue its journey towards the commercialisation of its next generation battery cathode material, eLNO®.
eLNO® is a new family of materials designed for plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicle lithium ion battery applications that can be tailored to the specific needs of our customers, such as enhanced driving range and battery life.
The facilities are at the leading edge of battery technology in the UK and will allow JM to work with leading automotive companies to develop tailored solutions for their applications.
JM has invested £23m at its site in Billingham, which employs 55 people in total. This is made up of an application centre and the eLNO® pilot plant, which is producing the first batches of the new products for customer testing. It has also invested a further £15m at Milton Park in Oxfordshire, and will employ a further 50 people in the next year or two.
