£18m investment to reduce GHG emissions by 40ktes and
manufacture medical grade sodium bicarbonate for export to over 60 countries worldwide.
Tata Chemicals Europe has constructed a 40ktes Carbon
Capture and Usage (CCU) plant at its Winnington Combined Heat & Power site in
Northwich, Cheshire.
The plant will capture 40ktes of flue gas from its world
class CHP plant and utilise it to manufacture pharmaceutical grade sodium
bicarbonate at its adjacent operation. This will reduce CHP emissions by over 10% and is
built with an option to double its capacity to 80ktes in the near term.
