Purpose

This Award is for the company or operating unit that can demonstrate excellence in sustainability, through its policies, products, manufacturing processes, and supply chain.

Eligibility

This Award is open to any company who manufactures chemicals or pharmaceuticals in the UK.  Following initial judging, applicants will be notified if they have been short-listed by 8 May 2026.  The winner will be announced at the Chemical Industry Awards Dinner.

Criteria

Judges will be looking for demonstrable leadership by and a commitment to sustainable development exemplified in its culture, policies, strategies, commitment to continuously improving it’s the environmental, economic and social performance. Applicants should include illustrative and flagship practical examples of sustainability initiatives and projects, backed by metrics where possible. In particular nominations will be assessed on:

  • Visible demonstration of leadership and implementation of suitable Sustainable Development strategies. 
  • Positive impact on stakeholders (e.g., customers, communities, employees). 
  • Commitment to one area of Sustainable Development linked to CIA’s Materiality Assessment or the UN Sustainability Goals. 
  • Evidence of innovative or unique solutions that go beyond standard practice and have potential to deliver ongoing benefits or be scaled up. 

Judging

Judging will be carried out by a sponsor, CIA staff member and an independent expert.
