The publication of the CDOIF Major Hazard Human Harm Risk Assessment (MHHHRA) guidance represents one of the most significant developments in COMAH risk assessment for many years. The guidance introduces a more structured and transparent approach to demonstrating the risks major hazards pose to people, with important implications for hazard identification, scenario selection, consequence modelling, and risk assessment methodologies. Alexandra Hurst from RAS will provide an overview of the new MHHHRA guidance, explaining what has changed from traditional COMAH approaches, and discuss the practical implications for operators. Drawing on their involvement in the MHHHRA working group and their experience applying the guidance on live projects, they will share key lessons learned, common challenges, and steps organisations can take now to prepare for future regulatory expectations.
