10.00am - 12.30pm with lunch - The Innovation Centre, Sci Tech Daresbury.

Facilitated by SLR.

Abdul Muqeem, MSc, PhD (Doctoral Sustainability Researcher) - Course Leader for MSc International Business, Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise, Chester Business School, University of Chester will be presenting about how Sustainability reporting has gained increasing significance within the chemical industry, especially in the United Kingdom, where emerging regulations are redefining corporate accountability standards. In this sector, sustainability reporting serves to increase transparency regarding environmental impacts, including emissions, waste management, and resource utilisation elements that directly affect financial outcomes. Organisations that implement comprehensive sustainability practices frequently experience enhanced investor confidence, operational efficiencies, and risk mitigation, thereby contributing to sustained long-term profitability.

In 2025, the United Kingdom implemented revised Sustainability Reporting Guidance for public sector entities, aligning with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and accentuating integrated reporting, data integrity, and materiality-focused disclosures of Scope 3 emissions.

Furthermore, the United Kingdom is progressing towards the implementation of the International Sustainability Standards Board’s (ISSB) S1 and S2 standards, thereby establishing the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (SRS) effective for reporting periods commencing in 2026. These developments indicate a transition towards more standardised and comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) disclosures, necessitating chemical companies to align their strategies accordingly to maintain competitiveness and ensure compliance.

We will also be joined by Dr Ruth Duberley, Advisory Teacher in the North West, Centre for Industry Education Collaboration. Ruth will be discussing Sharing your sustainability messages within and beyond your community.

CIEC specialises in sharing your sustainability journey with primary-aged children, their teachers and families. This can be achieved through teacher and/or children visits to your sites, production of industry-contextualised teaching materials, seated firmly in the science curriculum or visits by your STEM professionals to schools; all tailored to your company. Listen to case studies of how we have achieved this with companies in the chemical, biotech and allied industries. Find out more about how we can help you to share your successes, whether it be related to waste management, greener chemical processes, energy reduction or moves away from fossil fuel use.

We look forward to welcoming both existing and new members on the day. Contact Alex to reserve your place.
