8.30am breakfast and networking

9am - presentations

Our first presenter will be Carolyn Nicholls, Managing Director of RAS. Carolyn will be presenting on the soon to be published Chemical and Downstream Oil Industries Forum (CDOIF) guidance: Understanding Major Hazard Human Harm Risk Assessment (MHHHRA) for Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH). The guidance is intended to shape good practice for risk assessment across high hazard industries and has been developed to promote consistency of approach to provide operators, third parties and regulators with a common agreed reference. The scope of the guidance is the full range of high hazard businesses from simple storage of single substances (e.g. bulk LPG), through to complex chemical processing. This presentation will provide an overview on what to expect from this new guidance.

We will have a presenter from Corroshield Industrial Services giving a company introduction.

Our third presenter will be from adi Group giving a company introduction.

Steve Bennett from Business of Science Ltd will be giving an introduction to the next Business of Science Conference in Nottingham on the 14th May.

Glyn Horner from Charles River Laboratories will be giving a company introduction. Founded in 1947 by Dr. Henry Foster in a small Boston laboratory, Charles River Laboratories has evolved from a local supplier of research animal models into a leading global contract research organization (CRO). Over seven decades, the company expanded through strategic acquisitions to offer a comprehensive suite of regulatory testing services.

For the chemical industry, Charles River provides critical regulatory safety testing and consultancy advisory services. Our expertise covers industrial chemicals, agrochemicals, and biocides, helping clients navigate complex global mandates like Europe’s REACH. Key services include:

  • Toxicology & Ecotoxicology: Assessing human health risks and environmental impact.
  • Physicochemical Testing: Analyzing stability, purity, and chemical properties required for registration.
  • Regulatory Support: Compiling dossiers and acting as a technical liaison with authorities like ECHA and the EPA.

Today, our company operates over 150 facilities in 21 countries, supporting the safe development of novel compounds worldwide and is leading in the development of New Alternative Methodologies (NAMs) aiming to reduce the usage of animals in scientific research whilst also providing robust accurate data.
