Helen Coy 

Conference Chair

Helen Coy is the Global Senior Sustainability Manager at Innospec, a global specialty chemicals company. A chemist by background, Helen has been with Innospec for over 24 years, holding a diverse range of roles spanning technical, sales, M&A, health, safety, and environmental functions. Since 2014, Helen has been responsible for driving and embedding Innospec’s global sustainability strategy, including corporate transparency and reporting, climate strategy, key performance indicators, social responsibility programmes, and sustainable sourcing. Before joining Innospec, Helen worked in the hazardous waste industry. She has served as Chair of the CIA’s Sustainability Strategy Group since 2020.

    Senior System Manager, ISCC PLUS

    Berk Buyukbas is Senior System Manager - Traceability & Chain of Custody/GHG for International Sustainability and Carbon Certification(ISCC). He works for ISCC PLUS standard, a global certification scheme, applicable for the bio economy and circular economy for food, feed, chemicals, fuels, plastics, packaging and textiles. He works for the development of the standard and stakeholder engagement, especially focusing on the mass balance.

    David is a qualified accountant by original training and was a partner at Kidsons Impey (now RSM) for five years before moving into industry, where he held a variety of CEO and CFO roles. In 2009, David entered the energy sector by founding a corporate finance business focused on renewable energy projects, including the development of utility-scale solar PV and wind. He later spent five years at Jabil as a Vice President, where he played a leading role in corporate venturing across distributed commercial energy technologies. While at Jabil, he led the global rollout of an innovative energy savings program across the company’s factories. This experience highlighted the challenges faced by listed companies in adopting energy efficiency and sustainability measures—learnings that have been central to the development of On-Site Energy’s business model.

    Dr Edmund Ward 

    Deputy Director for Business & Industrial Transformation, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

    Dr Edmund Ward is Deputy Director for Business & Industrial Transformation at the UK’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ). He leads on the UK’s Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy, overseeing work on energy efficiency, circular economy, fuel switching (to electricity and hydrogen), and carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS). With industrial emissions making up around 17% of the UK’s total, he is focused on reducing emissions while supporting growth. Edmund holds a PhD in materials science and has worked across academia, industry, and government, including roles at Ofgem and BEIS. He is based in Darlington and leads a UK-wide team.

    Deputy Director for the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge, Innovate UK

    Nick is Deputy Director for the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge at Innovate UK. The SSPP programme supported research and innovation to deliver a circular economy for plastic packaging in the UK. Prior to this Nick was the Head of Materials at Innovate UK and managed the Resource Efficiency programme. Nick’s background in resource efficiency and circular economy was gained across 15 years in industry, he worked for Closed Loop Recycling, a large plastic bottle recycling business based in Dagenham, East London, where he delivered various projects, including creating the first commercial plastic bottle made from recovered marine plastic waste. Nick also worked for spin-off consultancy business, Closed Loop Environmental Solutions, managing projects such as launching a range of on-site food composting machines in the UK and a large waste auditing program for Heathrow Airport and various airlines to develop recycling options for both terminal and cabin waste.
