The Chemical Industries Association (CIA) has today released a new video showcasing insights from across its member companies on the future of the UK chemical sector. The video forms the next step in the Association’s Project 2035 initiative, following the publication of its report Project 2035: Pathways for a resilient and sustainable future, developed in partnership with S&P Global.

Bringing together voices from across the industry, the video explores what the next decade must deliver for the UK chemical sector to continue driving economic value, supporting society and leading environmental progress. It highlights the shared priorities identified through Project 2035, reflecting the challenges and opportunities facing chemical businesses.

The accompanying Project 2035 report provides an independent assessment of the UK chemical industry’s current and future resilience. Drawing on extensive desk research and engagement with companies across the sector, the report identifies key risks, major opportunities and the urgent actions required from both Government and industry to secure long-term competitiveness, sustainability and investment.

The video also captures the perspectives of the skilled workforce who keep the industry operating every day, underlining the importance of a stable, supportive and forward looking policy environment for the companies and communities that depend on the sector. With recent closures and uncertainty affecting parts of the industry, the need for coordinated action has become increasingly clear.

“What gives me great confidence is our people. They are the creator, the makers and the operators who not just enable the transformation of our own industry but provide the solutions to every part of the economy. Project 2035 demonstrates how we can achieve that successfully”.
— Nishma Patel, Policy Director, Chemical Industries Association

The CIA invites policymakers, industry partners, investors and stakeholders across the UK economy to watch and share the video, and to engage in the conversation about securing a resilient future for this vital sector.
